Mini Book Review #24: A Mom After God’s Own Heart: 10 Ways to Love Your Children, by Elizabeth George. A very short, very sweet review of this encouraging book for moms.
A Mom After God’s Own Heart speaks to the soul of the mother who wants to do more than just take her kids to church and keep them fed. Elizabeth George helps us look past the scurrying and work and toward the purpose of motherhood.
My Take:
I enjoyed listening to A Mom After God’s Own Heart as an audiobook. Elizabeth George’s calm, purposeful words were the perfect thing to check into between potty training sessions and homeschool busyness.
Chapter 9 of the book gives encouragement for prayer. A tip I loved was her suggestion to have the children look all day for something they especially want to thank God for that evening. At the end of the day or at dinner, each child can give thanks for that one special thing. That creates a habit of looking for God’s activity throughout the day, as well as an attitude of gratitude.
Favorite Quote:
“You must preach Christ….make telling your children about Jesus the priority, purpose and aim of your parenting….If you never get beyond this one priority, this one target, in your lifetime, you will live a full and meaningful life. Even if all your other dreams pass you by, doing this one thing will be enough, because this is what God asks of you…” (ch. 5)
